The Politics of Global Hegemony and the Russia-Ukraine Conflict
The politics of global hegemony are being challenged for the first time after five centuries. The assertion and preservation of a unipolar world that mark the politics of dominance backed by the collective West are on the decline. The challenge comes from multiple directions. China, that has been maligned and threatened in every US National Security document over the last few years, is asserting its position in international affairs and critiquing Western hegemony. Russia is fighting back NATO’s expansion to its borders and the proxy war politics by the US and its allies in Ukraine. The US backed by the West repeatedly declares Russia to be a threat that needs to be decimated and China as the most serious long-term threat. These two major powers share a common understanding of international geopolitics and geoeconomics, and have reacted by cementing their partnership to challenge Western hegemony.
