Godse Never Left the RSS

In the three-quarters of a century since the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January 1948, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) tried to obfuscate its links with the assassin, Nathuram Vinayak Godse. It claimed that Godse had left the organisation long before he killed Gandhi. The claim that blithely shaped the narrative concerning his association with the RSS all these years emanated from the self-portrait offered by Godse in his court statement on 8 November 1948, nine months after he killed Mahatma Gandhi.
