Digital Media and Social Justice in India: The Revival of Local Journalism via Digital Platforms

Unique systems of exploitation and forms of societal contradictions make India a distinct South Asian nation. Indian society is stratified along the lines of caste, gender, class, ethnicity, language, and religion. B.R Ambedkar reasoned, ‘You cannot build anything on the foundations of caste. You cannot build up a nation; you cannot build up a morality. Anything you will build on the foundations of caste will crack and will never be a whole’ (Ambedkar, 2002). Since Independence, various socio-political movements and public policy efforts have been made to address these deep-rooted social inequalities.
