History, Theory and the Study of the Evasions of Imperial Thought: A Critical Review

How is it that the historian theorises? How is it that the historian can tell their stories about the past that survives in the present and informs the future? What can history and theory become when it seeks to confront the ‘evasions’ of the past and the present? What makes someone choose history over theory or, alternatively, theory over history?
