Impact of Colonialism on Paite Folk Music

The folk music of Paite can broadly be categorised into four periods of time: prior to 1600; from 1600 to 1940; from 1940 to 1990; from 1990 onwards. The stage of ‘prior to 1600’ was the ancient remote past, the notes and solfa of the music of this period are entirely lost. It is unretractable and completely blind in how it sounds. The stage of ‘from 1600 to 1940’ covers
the traditional epoch. This chapter’s main studies come under this stage. The epoch ‘from 1940 to 1990’ is called the classical period as it was the end of the traditional music in its true sense and the beginning of the adoption of western music or a blend of the two. The modern music developed around the 1980s and reached its peak in the 1990s.
