‘Our Time Has Come’: Syriza’s Rise to Power

‘Our time has come’ is the slogan raised by Syriza to draw in the electorate to support its radical Left programme. ‘Syriza’ is the acronym in Greek for ‘Coalition of the Radical Left’ which brings together World and European Social Forums. The Greek Social Forum was decisive in turning the predominant culture of the new Greek Left away from loyalty to a particular ideology, and towards pluralism, democratic collaboration, openness and a belief in the importance of proposing an alternative. The coalition included Trotskyists and Maoists, greens, feminists, gays, social rights advocates (Wainwright 2015), Marxists, erratic Marxists, and Socialists.
