Let me begin by thanking the Chukkapalli Pitchaiah Memorial Trust for selecting me for its prestigious award for the year 2016. It is indeed an honour, an opportunity as well, particularly because it also gives me the privilege of speaking in memory of a remarkable person who had illumined the life of people around him by his philanthropic activities, entrepreneurial skills and commitment to progressive ideas. In the past very distinguished scholars have been the recipients of this award, which makes it all the more gratifying. I feel flattered to join their league
