Calorie Intake and Quality of Diet in India: 1993–94 to 2011–12

Lately there has been an aggressive projection of the falling levels of poverty in India, by national as well as international agencies. It is therefore anachronistic that the period from 1993–94 to 2009–10 saw a steady decline of per-capita per-day (PCPD) average calorie intake across different economic groups. The only exception was very low expenditure groups (the lowest 20 per cent of the monthly per capita expenditure [MPCE] distribution), who showed a certain degree of resistance to this decline.
