Gandhi’s Sorrows
Ritual remembrance has its uses. It is, therefore, not inconsequnetial that Gandhi should at least continue to be routinely remebered on the day he was born and the day he was killed. Besides, our avidness for celebrations and his exceptionally eventful life keep supplying, at increasingly short intervals, occasions for various jubilees and centenaries. Like now when year-long celebrations have commenced of the 150 years of his birth, and Sahmat has organised a series of lectures by scholars representing varied intellectual and ideological orientations.
