OBITUARY: Abhijit Sen (1950–2022)

Abhijit Sen (or ‘Manik’ to his family, friends and colleagues), one of India’s leading progressive economists, passed away on 29 August 2022. Besides serving as a much respected and loved Professor of Economics at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Manik held influential policy-making positions as Member of the Planning Commission, Chairperson of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, and Member of the Fourteenth Finance Commission, besides being Chair or Member of several important committees set up to recommend policies in specific areas.
