This issue leads with an overarching assessment by Jayati Ghosh of how the vision of economic development itself has changed over time and the implications that follow. While the post World War II development discourse started with an emphasis on GDP growth and structural change centred on industrialisation, it soon became clear that neither can this be the universal trajectory for all underdeveloped countries, nor would this deliver on crucial developmental goals.
