This issue of Social Scientist marks the beginning of the 50th year of its publication. The editorial board would like to thank the founding and former editors, authors, readers, referees and advertisers who helped ensure this long and successful record of consistent publication. Over the past 49 years the journal has served as a forum for progressive voices showcasing some of the most innovative analyses of social, economic and political issues from a left and democratic perspective. We commit ourselves to carrying forward that tradition.
