Editorial Note, Sep-Oct, 2022

This issue includes a symposium on some aspects of the social dimensions of development in India, with three articles by Dipa Sinha; Aashish Gupta, Vipul Paikra and Kanika Sharma; and Anjana Thampi and Arpita Biswas. Despite few spells of relatively high economic growth since the 1990s, India’s performance in improving health, nutrition and educational levels of the population has been disappointing and not commensurate with its per capita income and pace of growth. This divergence is, of course, the outcome of the nature of the economic growth witnessed in the country.
