OBITUARY: Brajadulal Chattopadhyaya (1939–2022)
Professor Brajadulal Chattopadhyaya was one of the most innovative, analytical and complete historians of early India of his generation. Prof. Chattopadhyaya studied in the Sanskrit College, and Presidency College, Kolkata, and obtained his Master’s degree from the Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture, Calcutta University, with specialization in epigraphy and numismatics. He completed his PhD from Cambridge University in 1969 and joined the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, as an assistant professor in 1971. He retired from JNU as a professor of ancient Indian history in 2004.
