OBITUARY: Professor Anil Bhatti

Professor Anil Bhatti who passed away on 11 October 2023 was an outstanding Marxist thinker and public intellectual of the country. He was a student in Germany, studying German literature and philosophy, when the world-wide student upsurge took place in the 1960s, triggered by the Vietnam War; being involved in that upsurge radicalised him. The European epicentre of that upsurge was in Germany, though its climax occurred in France in 1968, because of which all those who were part of that worldwide upheaval have often been referred to subsequently as the ‘sixty-eighters’.
