Editorial Note, September – October, 2024

In this issue Social Scientist carries a set of articles remembering and celebrating Sitaram Yechury, and his life and work. Yechury was in public life not just as a leader and General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), but as an important actor in India’s democratic politics at a crucial time in its history. Being who he was and where he came from, Sita (as he was known to friends and comrades) was also a supporter of a range of cultural and intellectual initiatives, including the Social Scientist. The articles that touch on varied aspects of his life, work and personality, speak for themselves. They also represent our modest effort at signalling how important he was to all of us.
