OBITUARY: Dhaneshwar Mandal (1933–2025)
Professor Dhaneshwar Mandal (D. Mandal) was born in Jamalpur, District Munger, Bihar, in 1933. He passed his high school (then matriculation) from Patna University in 1950 and chose to further his education from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. He passed the Intermediate course from BHU and later shifted to Allahabad for undergraduate studies at the University of Allahabad (then famous as Oxford of the East). Further, he did an M.A. in History from the University of Allahabad under the guidance of such scholars as G.R. Sharma, J.S. Negi and B.N.S. Yadava. It was G.R. Sharma who prompted the young Mandal to take a deep interest in Archaeology, a subject which finally became his occupation and lifelong passion.
