OBITUARY: A Real-World Economist – Trilok Singh Papola (1941–2015)

With the passing of Professor Trilok Singh Papola on 23 November, the country lost one of its front-ranking economists. His life and times coincided with a very crucial phase of India’s economic history – covering the nation’s enthusiastic experiment with development planning that gradually gave way to the market oriented reforms launched in 1991. Papola was an active participant in the entire range of debates that occurred around these transformations in economic regimes.
