OBITUARY: Biswamoy Pati (1955–2017)

The sudden passing away of Biswamoy Pati on 24 June 2017 came as a shock to all his friends, colleagues, students and fellow-activists. Born in 1955, Biswamoy went to school in Cuttack. He graduated from the University of Delhi where he studied History. He then researched for his Ph.D. thesis on tribal and peasant resistance and the national movement in the context of colonial Orissa (now Odisha), with Professor Sumit Sarkar as his supervisor. Biswamoy taught history at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, from 1982 onwards, subsequently moving to the Delhi University History Department in 2009.
