This posthumous book revives grief over the untimely death, on 9 January 2015, of its author, Jasodhara Bagchi. However, it is also a matter of great happiness for her former students and co-workers like me that she left behind the completed manuscript of this book to be made ready for publication by her family. We also have reason to be grateful to Sage and to Stree for making this book available to students and scholars of Women’s Studies as part of their series, ‘Theorising Feminism’, to which it properly belongs.
