Most scholarly works in the social sciences in India continue to appear in English and not in Hindi, the national language, even though only a small population can communicate in it. Publications in Hindi often lack in standards of style, precise vocabulary and diction. This is leading to an alarming gap between the knowledge generated globally and its reception in India. The absence of mother tongue in education and research has had a devastating effect on creativity and the quality of scholarly output.
