Editorial Note, May-Jun, 2018

The present issue is dedicated to the memory of Dr Biswamoy Pati – teacher, communist, historian – who passed away one year ago, in June 2018. Pati was closely associated with the editorial team of Social Scientist. This issue includes three papers by research scholars from the Department of History, University of Delhi, where Pati taught for several years. All the papers are on themes in which he was keenly interested: inequality, exclusion, gender, social history of medicine, the modern state.
